Spokane Valley Washington Cops Taser Cow

Happy to see our Spokane police force hard at work on the job. We knew thoughs tasers would come in handy one day.

'A cow that wandered into traffic near a freeway shopping mall was killed by Spokane County sheriff's deputies who repeatedly stunned it with a Taser.

"We're not cowboys. I don't believe we have any rodeo champions on staff," spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said of the deputies decision to repeatedly "zap" the animal Wednesday after efforts to restrain it failed.

The cow was among three that escaped from a nearby field near the Spokane Valley Mall. Two of the bovines were quickly recaptured by their owners, but one avoided capture for about four hours, eventually trotting onto a freeway ramp.

State law requires deputies "to do whatever you can do to keep somebody from dying as a result of collision with a cow," Reagan said.

The cow was cornered by deputies about 11 a.m. between the mall and Interstate 90.

Several deputies who had seen a video of a Brahman bull being incapacitated by a Taser decided to stun the creature and tie its legs with a long leather strap ordinarily used to restrain kicking humans.

But the cow recovered before the strap could be used and deputies then zapped the cow "again and again" and the animal died, Reagan said.

No charges are pending against the cow's owner.'

I've heard of fried hamburger, but never "zapped cow".

Spokane Washington Neighborhood State's Largest Historic District

Earth shattering news from the Seattle PI. Now I know why they want to preserve the skyscrapers in downtown Spokane.

'A former "streetcar suburb" near downtown Spokane has been named the state's largest National Historic District by the National Park Service, the city said Wednesday.

Nettleton's Addition, in Spokane's West Central neighborhood, was named for William Nettleton, whose work in Spokane and the Midwest promoted westward expansion by rail.

Nettleton's Addition catered to the housing needs of the emerging turn-of-the-century middle class, and 70 percent of the homes there were built before 1910.

It was added to the state heritage register last year.

Nettleton founded Duluth, Minn., and Superior, Wis., in the 1850s. He donated 65 acres to secure the Northern Pacific Railroad eastern terminus in Duluth.

He moved to Spokane in 1883, the same year the Northern Pacific arrived in the city. Nettleton bought 260 acres from the Northern Pacific and platted the land for sale.

"This early Spokane streetcar suburb documents perfectly the life cycle of American cities," according to the city's Web site.'

Orange County Choppers in Spokane Washington

Wake up biker dudes! The OCC Orange County Choppers are a headin' to Spokane Washington.

'The renowned bike builders, The Orange County Choppers, are coming to Spokane this summer. The OCC are considered by many to be royalty in the custom motorcycle industry.
The stars of the popular TV show, "American Chopper" are planning an appearance at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center on July 28-30. The official word came from the Teutel family in a video announcement on Wednesday afternoon. It was delivered to an excited crowd at Northern Quest Casino.

The Choppers selected Spokane as one of only four stops on its 2006 tour across the country. The event will include live shows with the cast building a bike on stage, a multi-million dollar theme bike collection, and how-to tips for motorcycle enthusiasts. The event is expected to be big business for Spokane.

"Normally our fans come from 8,10,12 hours away to see us because we don't get out that much," said Kerry Dunne, the show's promoter. "We're gonna bring $20-$30 million worth of theme bikes here that many people have seen us build on TV and so it's really an opportunity that they may not ever get."

Dunne says every restaurant and hotel in Spokane will be filled with Chopper fans, bringing in millions of dollars into the economy. The OCC will also donate a sizeable amount of money to the Spokane Boys and Girls Club. '

Maybe that's why they finally decided to repair third. An "OCC chopper" street drag race down that baby. Good luck timing the lights in this town.
